      Artist's Statement
Instead of creating a copy of what I see, I like to make my works come alive, offer intrigue or surprise. I want to create something that makes you want to look at it again, and again.

It is not just about the mosaics and tile, it’s the other world behind the art that I am interested in … the emotion. When I carve a snake, it’s not just a snake, for example, but a faucet. When I create a wall hanging, it’s full of textures, patterns and colors – three dimensions instead of two. A table with Egyptian carvings will bring out the Indiana Jones in you as you decipher the secret code and look for the hidden treasure. If a client is in love with the view of the river from their kitchen window, my goal is to capture that feeling in the mosaic of that scene, regardless of where it’s recreated … even in the shower.

When faced with an idea or inspiration from a client, I will take into regard various forms of media, whether that be marble, granite, slate, limestone, glass, tile, mirrors, metals, carving stone or even the good china, whatever it may take to capture that idea. Because of what I have done and what I know, I feel confident in taking on any challenge and applying my experience and inventiveness to reach it.

I have always been drawn to mosaics, especially those with detail and storytelling like the ones from the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. I fine in these my greatest inspiration.

But, most of all, I like making people happy and tweaking their emotions with what I create. That is my biggest reward.
